What items can you get embroidered?
We embroider hats and caps, polos, jackets, sweatshirts and hoodies, workwear and cotton towels. These sturdy garments hold stitches well, which is why a stitched logo is the usual choice for staff polos, crew jackets, team caps and monogrammed gifts.
| Item | Where the logo usually goes | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Hats and caps | Centered on the front panels | Up to 15 thread colors, or a woven, PVC or faux-leather patch. Browse embroidered hats. |
| Polos | Left chest, with the sleeve as a second spot | The classic look for staff and events. Shop polo shirts. |
| Jackets | Left chest, or the back for a larger logo | Logos on outerwear for crews, teams and staff. See custom jackets. |
| Sweatshirts and hoodies | A small chest logo | Cozy layers for teams, staff and gifts. See custom sweatshirts. |
| Workwear | Left chest | Logos for crews and uniforms that see real work. Browse workwear. |
| Cotton towels | A monogram or a small logo | Monograms and logos for gifts and events. Get ideas for embroidered monograms on cotton towels. |
T-shirts, full-color artwork and large designs are usually printed instead, and we offer screen printing and DTF transfers under the same roof, so one order can mix stitched and printed pieces. To see which garments suit stitching and which suit printing, read our guide to embroidery vs printing.
How can I get my logo embroidered?
Pick the items, then send us your logo with the placement, the quantities by size and the date you need everything in hand, and we'll quote the order. Your logo becomes a stitch file first, and finished pieces can be picked up free in Alpharetta or shipped to you.
- Choose your items. Pick the hats, polos, jackets or hoodies you want, plus colors and sizes. One request can cover several items.
- Send your logo. A vector file (AI, EPS or PDF) gives the cleanest result, and a high-resolution PNG or JPG works too.
- Share the details. Tell us the placement, thread colors, quantities and the date you need everything in hand.
- Get your quote. We will price the order and answer any questions about your logo.
- Pick up or ship. You can pick up finished orders for free in Alpharetta, and we'll let you know when yours is ready, or we can ship them to any of the 50 states with tracking.
A complete request might read: 36 navy polos (8 S, 12 M, 10 L, 6 XL) with the logo on the left chest, plus 36 black caps with the same logo centered on the front, needed in hand the week before your event. With every detail in one message, nothing has to be guessed.
Request a quote through our contact page, call (678) 845-6864 or email hello@tidalcolors.com. Embroidered pieces need production time on top of shipping, so put your in-hand date in the request and order early for events.

Embroidered hats: stitched logos or patches
Caps are a classic item to embroider. Hat logos can be stitched in up to 15 thread colors, which leaves plenty of room for multi-color logos. Prefer a different texture? Choose woven, PVC or faux-leather patches; flat-front and unstructured caps can also be screen printed or decorated with DTF.
- Direct embroidery: the logo is stitched straight into the cap, centered across the front panels, the most visible spot on a hat. It's raised and textured, the classic look for team and company caps.
- Woven patch: a flat badge woven from very fine thread, then attached to the cap. A woven patch is a good way to keep fine detail on a cap.
- PVC or faux-leather patch: a rubbery or leather-look badge for a bolder, more rugged look, often seen on work and outdoor caps.
Hat orders are quoted like the rest: tell us the cap style and color, direct embroidery or the patch type, and how many you need. For every way to get a logo on a hat, and which suits each cap style, see our guide to embroidered vs printed hats. See every style on our custom hats page, and if you'd rather decorate caps yourself, here's how to press DTF transfers on caps.
What is digitizing, and why does it come first?
Digitizing turns your logo into a stitch file, the set of instructions an embroidery machine follows. It maps every stitch, its type, direction, length and order, plus each change of thread color. It comes first because the machine can't stitch from a PNG or vector file; every piece is sewn from that stitch file.
- Size: a logo is digitized at the size it will be stitched, so a cap front and a left chest are often separate files.
- Detail: small text and thin lines are often thickened or simplified so they stay readable in thread.
- Fabric: stitch density and backing are usually set for the garment, so the logo sits flat on a structured cap, a polo or a fleece hoodie.
A careful stitch file is what keeps edges clean and lettering crisp; a rushed one can leave gaps, puckers or fuzzy text, even on a good machine. For you, it means two things: send the cleanest version of your logo, and list every size and placement in your quote request. Clean, simple artwork makes for a sharper finished logo.
How much does it cost to embroider a logo?
It depends on your logo and your order, so every embroidery job is quoted. The price mostly follows the stitch count, which grows with the logo's size and how much of it is filled with thread, and then with the number of placements, the quantity and the items you choose.
| What changes the price | Why |
|---|---|
| Stitch count | Each stitch takes machine time, so a solid, filled logo costs more than an open, outlined one of the same size. |
| Logo size | A bigger logo needs more stitches. Chest and cap logos stay small, which keeps the count down. |
| Placements | Each spot, such as the cap front, the chest or a sleeve, is stitched separately. Sleeves and jacket backs are popular too, so mention any extra placements when you request a quote. |
| Quantity | Your total and the split by item and size are part of every quote. |
| The items | The caps, polos, jackets, hoodies, workwear or towels you pick are priced into the quote as well. |
For an exact price, send the logo, the items, the quantities by size and every placement through our contact page. To keep the cost down, start with the stitch count: a smaller or more open version of your logo in one spot takes fewer stitches than a large, solid design in several.
How can I create an embroidery-friendly logo?
Start from your existing logo and simplify it: bold shapes, a few solid colors, no gradients or shadows, and text large enough to read in thread. You don't need to make the stitch file yourself; send the cleanest version you have, and it's digitized from there.
- Keep it bold. Thread cannot reproduce smooth gradients, photos or hairline details, so a clean, flat version of your logo works best.
- Go easy on tiny text. Small lettering and thin lines can blur together in thread. Drop a long tagline or use a simplified logo for small spots.
- Share your brand colors. That way, thread colors can be matched as closely as possible.
Detail is usually the limit, not the number of colors: hats take up to 15 thread colors. For separate prep checklists for the stitched and printed versions of one logo, see our design tips for stitched and printed logos.
Logo embroidery for polos, jackets and hoodies
A stitched left-chest logo is the classic look for company polos and jackets. On hoodies and sweatshirts, a small chest logo looks polished and suits everyday wear. That's why embroidery is the usual pick for staff uniforms, crew jackets and team layers that get worn and washed every week.
- Polos: the logo goes on the left chest, with the sleeve as a common second spot. Firm knits such as piqué keep a stitched logo flat, while very light performance fabric can pucker if the stitching is dense.
- Jackets: the chest for the main logo, and the back when you want a larger one.
- Sweatshirts and hoodies: a small chest logo, kept clear of the zipper on a zip-up.

An embroidered polo looks sharp when the basics line up: a fabric firm enough to hold stitches, a logo sized for the chest and a clean stitch file. Outfitting a whole crew? Our custom company apparel page covers staff uniforms, workwear and safety apparel.
For a staff or team order, collect every size before you ask for a quote; our guide shows how many of each size to order. Team jerseys are sublimated or printed (see custom team uniforms), while coach polos and caps are often embroidered.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to digitize a logo for embroidery?
It depends on the logo. A bold, simple design takes less work than one with fine detail, small text or many colors, and every extra size or placement can mean another file. Digitizing always comes before the first stitch, so send your logo early with your in-hand date, and ask about timing when you request a quote.
How big should chest embroidery be?
A left-chest logo is typically 3–4 inches wide, about pocket size, with the height set by the logo's shape. As a rule of thumb, lean toward 3 inches on small or fitted shirts and toward 4 on larger sizes. If a wide logo has small text, simplify it so the lettering stays readable in thread. Printed chest logos follow the same range; see left chest logo size in our size guide.
How can I embroider my logo on my shirt?
Pick a garment that holds stitches well, such as a polo, sweatshirt, jacket or workwear shirt, and send us your logo, the placement and the quantities for a quote. Lightweight t-shirts are usually better printed, since thin jersey tends to pucker under a dense logo, and printed custom t-shirts have no minimum order.
Is there a minimum order for embroidery?
Embroidery is quoted per order, so send your quantity with your request, even if it's small, and we'll tell you what's possible for those items. If you need just one or two printed pieces instead, printed custom apparel has no minimum order, and DTF transfers come with no setup fees or minimums.
Can I get embroidery done the same day?
No. Embroidery isn't a same-day service: your logo is digitized first, then every piece is stitched, and shipping time comes on top. Put your in-hand date in the quote request and order early for events. Only DTF transfer orders placed before 3 PM EST, Monday to Friday, are printed and shipped the same day; see DTF shipping and turnaround.
Can you embroider a different name on each polo?
Ask in your quote request: list each name with its item and size, and we'll tell you the options for your order. If every shirt needs its own name or number, printed custom apparel is the simpler route: the online designer's Add Team Name tool adds one to each shirt, with no minimum order.
Do you take bulk embroidery orders for hats and polos?
Yes. Bulk orders for staff, teams and events are quoted like any embroidery job: send the logo, each item with its color, the quantities by size and the placements. One stitch file serves every piece with the same logo and placement, however many you order, so caps and polos can share one logo across the whole run.
